Developed by Swedish indie studio Frame Break, Lightyear Frontier is described as a game that blends mechanics from open-world exploration games with farming simulation games. However, one interesting bit from Lightyear Frontier is the fact that it features an alien planet as its setting, not to mention that players will do most of their in-game activities while piloting a customizable mech. Lightyear Frontier was first announced almost a year ago, but it has finally received an official release window.

The latest trailer of Lightyear Frontier shows that it is scheduled to come sometime in spring 2023. The game is being developed for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will also come to both the Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on day one, meaning that subscribers of either service will be able to start building its peaceful homestead on Lightyear Frontier on the same day as the standalone releases.
The new trailer also depicts some of the interesting mechanics in Lightyear Frontier, from shooting plant seeds to harvesting crops and drilling various resources, all using the seemingly very versatile robot arms that the mech is equipped with. As in most farming simulation games, base building is also an essential part of Lightyear Frontier. In this game, proper facilities are necessary not only to process and manufacture crops and other resources, but also to research mech upgrades and more advanced structures.
As for the exploration part, Lightyear Frontier is promising an enticing world filled with mysteries to discover. One thing that won’t be in Lightyear Frontier is combating hostile aliens, as the game is intended to provide a peaceful experience to players. Instead, the game will see players domesticate wildlife and face challenges such as adverse weather conditions.
All in all, Lightyear Frontier is slated to offer a fresh take on the ever-popular farming simulation genre. When the game comes, players are free to choose to enjoy the game either solo or in a four-player co-op session.
Lightyear Frontier launches in spring 2023 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
